BlackBerry Classic: Familiar QWERTY Design Packs High-Performance Features
New Device Responds to Customer Demand for a Familiar Design Merged with the Security and Speed of BlackBerry 10 for Superior Productivity, Communications and Collaboration

Waterloo, ON – BlackBerry Limited (NASDAQ: BBRY; TSX: BB), a global leader in mobile communications, today launched the BlackBerry® Classic™, a no-nonsense smartphone built to meet the needs of productive people who appreciate the speed and accuracy that can be found with a physical QWERTY keyboard.

“We listened closely to our customers’ feedback to ensure we are delivering the technologies to power them through their day – and that feedback led directly to the development of BlackBerry Classic,” said John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry. “BlackBerry Classic is the powerful communications tool that many BlackBerry Bold and Curve users have been waiting for. It’s the secure device that feels familiar in their hands, with the added performance and agility they need to be competitive in today’s busy world.”

Although familiar in appearance, BlackBerry Classic upgrades the BlackBerry® Bold 9900 experience with:
· Three times faster browser
· 60 percent more screen space
· 50 percent longer battery life
· Greater variety of applications through BlackBerry World and the Amazon Appstore

Top features of the BlackBerry Classic that drive productivity, communications and collaboration include:
· BlackBerry® Keyboard & Trackpad – The QWERTY keyboard has stood the test of time as the iconic BlackBerry feature that users know and trust. Crafted for optimal speed and accuracy, the BlackBerry Classic’s QWERTY keyboard gives users the control and confidence to communicate quickly and clearly using one hand with a trackpad and classic navigation keys.
· BlackBerry® Browser – The BlackBerry 10 web browser is amazingly fast and astoundingly beautiful. That’s why HTML5TEST.com rates it amongst the top mobile browsers for web fidelity.* Access your favorite online content as it was meant to be seen, faster than ever before and with unlimited browser tabs.
· Screen & Battery – The BlackBerry Classic offers a form factor optimized for power communicators with a 3.5-inch touch screen display, 294 dpi HD resolution and Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 for greater durability. The BlackBerry Classic also offers a large battery capacity and state-of-the-art battery optimization software. With up to 22 hours of battery power, you can be confident that BlackBerry Classic will be ready to deliver results when you need it.**
· Premium Components – The device is built with durable materials mixed with top-of-the-line technology. This includes a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB of device storage (expandable by up to 128GB via uSD), and a 2MP front- and 8MP rear-facing camera with enhanced optics and upgraded imaging sensors.
· BlackBerry® 10 OS 10.3.1 – The BlackBerry Classic comes preloaded with the BlackBerry 10.3.1 operating system, offering a fresh look that incorporates updated icons and an instant action bar so that each user’s most commonly accessed functions are in the center of their screen. With this new operating system, users gain access to powerful features, including:
o BlackBerry® Blend – BlackBerry Blend brings messaging and content that is on your BlackBerry smartphone to your computer and tablet. Get instant message notifications, read and respond to your work and personal email, BBM™ and text messages, and access your documents, calendar, contacts and media in real time on whatever device you are on, powered by your BlackBerry.
o BlackBerry® Assistant – The BlackBerry Assistant is BlackBerry’s first digital assistant and can be used with voice and text commands to help users manage work and personal email, contacts, calendar and other native BlackBerry 10 applications. It’s the only smartphone assistant on the market today that can access both personal and work content in your work perimeter. BlackBerry Assistant intelligently determines how to respond to you based on how you interact with it – if you type, it responds silently, if you speak, it speaks back and if you activate over Bluetooth, it speaks back with additional context because it assumes you might not have access to the screen.
o Dual app storefronts for a wealth of professional and popular apps:
§ BlackBerry World – BlackBerry World showcases essential productivity apps for business professionals looking to drive efficient communications and collaboration.
§ Amazon Appstore – Preloaded on BlackBerry Classic, users can access popular Android apps and games through the Amazon Appstore including Candy Crush Saga, Pinterest, Kindle for Android and Cut the Rope 2. Users can also scan Android apps for malware and privacy issues prior to installation using BlackBerry Guardian.
· BlackBerry® Hub – The one place to manage all your conversations – email, texts, BBM, phone calls, social media and more. You can even glance at what’s next in your calendar. It’s always available with a single swipe to help you stay organized, in control and on top of all your conversations.

BlackBerry Classic is built on BlackBerry’s renowned secure operating system, with built-in protection against viruses, tampering and data leaks. The BlackBerry Classic is private by default, protecting users with encrypted email, web browsing and BBM.

“This device underscores our commitment to helping BlackBerry users be at their most productive and respond to the demands of business from anywhere, at any time,” said Chen. “By bringing back the trusted functionalities, incorporating our latest operating system and building a speedier browser, our users can feel confident they are using the best communications tool out there.”

The BlackBerry Classic is now available through local carriers around the world and online through ShopBlackBerry.com and Amazon.com. For more information, please visit http://www.BlackBerry.com/Classic. A variety of accessories including cases and chargers are also available.

BlackBerry Classic Preview and Full specs

Posted on Updated on

The BlackBerry Classic continues to be talked about a few days before its official launch. As we have repeatedly pointed out, the BlackBerry Classic will be released on the market Wednesday, December 17 through a life event that will be held simultaneously in New York, Singapore and Frankfurt. The BlackBerry Classic was created to meet the demands of all the BlackBerry users who still have not gone to a BB10 for the disappearance of the function keys and optical trackpad. This can make people understand why you chose the name Classic. Want to meet people who are still tied to a BlackBerry Legacy because of the presence of the optical trackpad and the function keys.

image

Behind its formal submission have appeared on the net new photos and images that make us appreciate the BlackBerry Classic. We believe this device will win and convince those who still uses a BlackBerry Legacy to switch to BlackBerry 10 platform.
The Classic will be the first BlackBerry BB10 that come on the market with the version of the BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 that it will bring across a range of new features and capabilities . Will see a new user interface with icons ‘flat’ very colorful and magazines not to mention all the shortcut and hot keys typical smartphone with keyboard of the past.

image

As we can see the classic belt of the function keys is identical to the last BlackBerry Bold 9900. Unlike the latter the trackpad does not illuminate its contour as it happens for the other function keys in the strap positioned between the screen and keyboard.

image

image

The back of the BlackBerry Classic is knurled almost honeycomb for us to have a firm grip and secure in the knowledge that there can not slip from the hands. We note the instructions to place the nano SIM and microSD. There seems to be a need to have a small key to remove the two screws that close tightly slots for SIM and microSD.

image

The BlackBerry Classic is characterized by a perimeter of steel running along the entire profile of the handheld. This does not make us simply remember the Blackberry Bold 9900 and, before it, the BlackBerry 9000 Bold. Especially the latter was the architect of the greatest expansion of RIM on the smartphone market.

image

At the bottom we see two speakers and the entrance to the microUSB cable for charging the device or to synchronize with the PC. To the right are the volume keys and media control as with all other BB10.

image

On the left we see the slot for inserting the nano SIM and micro SD. How can we understand this is not a door. It seems that BlackBerry has wanted to give us the opportunity to remove the part secured by two screws which we can glimpse this close up shot. In the past he had used the BlackBerry flaps that, in the long run, no longer left in place. Opened when he got up to answer the handheld or were in the way when it is held in his hand to write.

image

On the upper part to the center gets the power button with two holes, one right and one left, for the correction of the noise. Also on the left we see the entrance to the headphone jack of the BlackBerry Classic

Even by a photo view from nearby we can understand how the keyboard of the BlackBerry Classic is similar to that of the BlackBerry Q10. This is to give the best experience of typing and writing without smearing or errors.

Game “BrickBreaker” will be on the BlackBerry Classic

Posted on Updated on

image

From Inside BlackBerry :
Always one to draw on that nostalgic BlackBerry feeling, the BlackBerry Classic brings Classic Navigation Keys to BlackBerry 10 for the first time. These, along with the trackpad and physQWERTY keyboard allow you to stay productive, get work done and make the most out of your day. They also allow for something that I personally love to take a little downtime to do – classic gaming.

As you’ll see in the video below, using the trackpad to scroll through messages, lists and as a cursor in the browser isn’t the only thing that’s familiar with the BlackBerry Classic. Brick Breaker, the addictive game that BlackBerry fans will surely remember, is back. And rather than wearing out your keyboard, now you can smash bricks with what has personally become my favorite method – the trackpad.

BrickBreaker Game on BlackBerry Classic

Classic games have resurged over the past half decade, with indie developers creating modern games with that retro 8-bit feel. Minecraft is but one example, but a quick web search will yield results ranging from the 80s-inspired pixel art subgenre to the viral so-addictive-it-was-removed-by-the-publisher Flappy Bird game. Even the makers of Angry Birds have slung themselves onboard with the recent release of Retry. Clearly, classic games such as BrickBreaker are 100% on-trend.

The BlackBerry Classic itself is born of a tried and true platform for customers who care about business: doers. It brings that familiar package, iterates on the trusted BlackBerry Bold 9900 and brings new technology to the table making it among the most productive BlackBerry devices to date, in my experience.  The BlackBerry Classic will be preloaded with both BlackBerry World and the Amazon Appstore allowing you to get the best apps for work and play.

I’ve already shown you that top-ranked browsing is up to 3x faster than the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and that the Classic Navigation Keys make getting around simple and intuitive. Celebs and fans have weighed in on what they believe makes a classic and Team BlackBerry is taking part in a social mosaic explaining #INeedMyBB. All of these elements together are what make the BlackBerry Classic simple yet powerful. You can pre-order the device today and tune in next week, on December 17th for the launch event where all will be revealed.
